Durham Before the Snow Storm

I thought this picture was really diverse with the mixture of the old bridge, the different colored landscape and the river.

A Different Side to the Durham Castle

Seeing as though we just went on a field trip to Durham this past week, I thought that I should show the lovely architecture of the Durham Cathedral. I like the tree branches on the side of it because it represents depth and scale. I also decided to keep the person's hat in the bottom right hand corner because it shows how big the structure is and someone looking up at it.

Extreme Close-ups

I liked the bright green color of the leaves because at this time of year in Minnesota, it is all white and brown. You can also almost get the feeling of the texture of the leaf by viewing the veins. It is amazing that they have such green vegetation all year round.

In Black & White

This picture reminds me of an old black and white movie. The landscape and people with the black and white coloring gives and "oldies" feeling. Plus, it is so amazing when you first walk in and see this enormous water fountain with such brilliant greens surrounding it.

Beautiful but Deadly

These lovely white and pink flowers are actually filled with some type of poisonous substance and can be located in the poison gardens at the Alnwick Gardens. I thought that this close-up was nice because these were some of the only flowers in the entire garden that were in bloom at this time of year.

Edinbrugh at Night

As we were walking to our hostel after the professors left for the day, I thought that I would take a picture of the Edinbrugh castle at night. I enhanced the lighting a little to make it more viewable as it was pretty hard to see even with my camera flash.

Looking through Water

I cannot get over this fountain and so I wanted to try and view it in as many different ways possible. I went up to the edge of one of the sides and looked through the various shooting water spouts and got this. I thought that it was kind of different from of the pictures that I had taken. I like the color variation of browns, greens and blues.

Shooting Water

I just couldn't get over how beautiful this water fountain was at the Alnwick Gardens so I thought instead of using a boring moving vehicle picture, I would use moving water for my motion picture this week. It looks really pretty with the shape of the fountain and the architecture and landscape surrounding it in the background.

Durham Cathedral

While in Durham, we went to one of the largest cathedrals in England. Just like York, it was impossible to be this close up and get the entire cathedral in the picture. I thought this low angled photo really helped emphasize its grandeur size.

The Fountain of Alnwick Gardens

I thought that the lighting behind me as the sun was getting lower and looking down over the fountain was a beautiful high angle picture. You can see the bergundy colored trees on either side and the way it comes to a center focal point from the pathway to the main building in the Alnwick Gardens.
